So, What had happend was ...
An Unforgivable Surrender
So essentially, Democrats, Americans, suddenly discovered that the 82-year-old President didn’t defy reality, didn’t appear superhuman, and didn’t outperform a man half his age.
We elected a 77-year-old man four years ago, and somehow, we are surprised that he has aged four years.
At the first — and as it turns out, only — debate, the President performed poorly, especially in the opinion of the assembled commentators from the very same news network that hosted the debate. (Those who weren’t chosen to moderate — sour grapes? Monday morning quarterbacking?)
Meanwhile, few seemed troubled by the fact that the other candidate neglected to answer most of the questions posed to him — and that every response he gave was an outright lie.
Beyond that, the Republican candidate:
-
Won under questionable circumstances in 2016,
-
Refused to accept the results of the 2020 election,
-
And would not agree to accept the results of the upcoming election unless he wins.
The fact remains: even if you believe that life somehow stops at 81, and that President Biden is therefore compromised, logic would dictate that given the alternative, we face nothing less than the end of democracy as we know it.
Donald Trump:
-
Enlisted the help of an adversarial foreign government to win the 2016 election,
-
Devised a plan to replace electors in states he lost with imposters,
-
Ordered his Vice President to illegally sabotage the counting of electoral votes,
-
Directed an angry mob to seize the Capitol, endangering 535 elected officials and the Capitol Police force,
-
Watched the chaos from the White House dining room for three hours before half-heartedly suggesting the rioters leave,
-
And now claims the events of January 6th were a "peaceful protest" — vowing to pardon those convicted of attacking the seat of our democracy.
And yet, CNN, The New York Times, and virtually all of the mainstream media chose instead to focus on the age of the President — the man we elected four years ago at 77 — as if this were some kind of surprise.
They ignored the simple, undeniable fact that the challenger is barely four years younger, and in far worse physical and cognitive health than the incumbent.
So what did the Democratic Party do?
They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
The rich white guys — yes, I’m talking to you, George Clooney — along with more than 30 sitting members of Congress, called for the President to step down.
(That’s kind of like the bank tellers demanding the bank president resign.)
I don't need to recount what happened next.
What matters is this: not one of those people has publicly apologized.
Not one has taken responsibility for demanding that President Biden withdraw.
Now, Democrats are asking: "How do we move forward?"
But here's the hard truth:
In American society today, nobody admits when they are wrong.
Nobody confesses failure.
Nobody takes accountability.
And we cannot move forward unless we acknowledge our mistakes — unless we confess our sins.
Every speaker at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting begins with the same act of humility:
"Hi, my name is Pete, and I am an alcoholic."
Until our leaders — and we, as citizens — are willing to say:
"Hi, my name is _________, and I was wrong,"
we will remain stuck, repeating the same mistakes, trapped by our own unwillingness to face the truth.
... I'm just saying.
